EUCHARISTIC
MINISTERS FOR THE SICK are
needed at
HOPE & HEALING PRAYER SERVICE
Each Monday from10 am to 11 am there will be a Healing Prayer Service during Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament by the Hope and Healing Ministry team. Everyone is welcome to attend. After prayer and adoration, the laying on of hands will be available to any who seek healing for themselves or for a loved one. Please note Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament continues as scheduled.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
“Jesus calls people to Him in His Sacrament, and almost no one responds to His invitations: He invites them to His Eucharistic Banquet, and they have a thousand pretexts for refusing to come to it. The faithless and ungrateful soul refuses the grace of Jesus Christ, the most excellent gift of His love. And Jesus remains alone, forsaken, His hands full of graces that no one wants; people are afraid of His love!” DO NOT BE AFRAID – RESOLVE THIS YEAR TO COME ADORE ONE HOUR EACH WEEK. Noon on Sundays until Monday at 7 PM. *From the Fifth Station meditations of Saint Peter Julian Eymard
CHURCH BULLETIN BOARDS
All publications on the church bulletin boards must be brought to the office and approved by the pastor before they are posted. The office staff is responsible for putting things on the bulletin board and for taking them down. Thank you for your cooperation.
MINISTERS NEEDED
If
you would like to usher, lector, be a Eucharistic Minister to the sick, join the
choir, or help in any ministry please call the parish office and leave your name
and phone number.
ALTAR FLOWERS
Please do not water the plants or flowers on the altar. We have a committee that takes care of them. If they are watered too much they will rot. Thank you for your cooperation.
PARKING
The Fire Marshal requires that the driveway be totally clear of vehicles. This means parking is only allowed in the parking lot or on the street. We are requesting that you do not park on the grass at St. John’s. In addition the fire marshal requires that the driveway be totally clear with no vehicles parked on it. This means parking is only allowed in the parking lot or on the street. Thank you for your cooperation.
DO
NOT PARK in
the driveway to the garage. This space is reserved for our priests
and visiting priests. Many times they have to leave quickly and oftentimes
they are blocked in. Thank you. Father George Brubaker, Pastor
A reminder to anyone who uses the church or
meeting rooms, PLEASE turn off all lights and lock all doors when
you are leaving. Many times there are people working in one of the offices and
it is unsafe for doors to be left unlocked. This will also help us to cut
costs. Thank you for your cooperation! We
have an ongoing problem of lights being left on in the building. We are
requesting that if you are using church facilities for a meeting, when your
meeting is over please turn the lights out. If you are the last to
leave the building please turn off all the lights. This will
help us to maintain expenses which are at an all time high. Thank you.
Take utensils, pots,
pans, dishes or any other equipment from the hall to the church basement or
from the church basement to the hall. We are required by the health
department to have specific items in our hall kitchen therefore this is very
important. Thank you for your cooperation.
PEWS & KNEELERS
Please be aware that the broken kneelers and cracked pews in St. John’s Church are being repaired. A very generous and busy parishioner has agreed to make these repairs at no charge to the church. Please be patient as he gets this enormous task accomplished. Thank you.
SWITCHES & BUTTONS
We ask you to please be very careful when turning switches or pushing buttons on & off. There are many emergency switches and buttons in the Church. This past weekend, someone turned off the emergency switch for the church boiler. As a result, there was no heat on Sunday morning. Also please do not adjust the thermostats. Thank you for your cooperation.
HALL & CHURCH SUPPLIES
We remind you please not to take supplies from the new hall and bring to the basement of the church and vice versa. Our supplies are bought specifically for either the New Hall or for the Church basement and budgeted accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation.
CHURCH CLEANING
Volunteers are need
to help clean the church on the second Tuesday of each month. If you can
help please call Debbie Toms at 424-0610.
HALL RENTAL
For parishioners to
rent St. John’s Hall the cost is $400 for four hours and $100 for each
additional hour. If the kitchen is
used the cost is $100 and there is also a clean up fee of $100.
For non-parishioners the cost is $500 for four hours plus the kitchen and
clean up fee. On occasion when a
fundraiser is held and St. John’s receives the funds or part of the funds the
rental is negotiated otherwise the rental fee does not change and is the same
for everyone. If you would like

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS
In
today’s readings, God, through Jonah’s preaching causes the people of
Nineveh to answer His call, turn away from evil, and repent. In St.
Mark’s Gospel, Jesus calls Simon-Peter, Andrew, James, and John to be His
disciples. They respond immediately, leaving their fishing businesses and
families - sacrificing everything to follow the Lord. their actions were
considered radical in Jesus’ day, and also by today’s standards. As
disciples striving to embrace stewardship as a way of life, are we too willing
to sacrifice all to further His Kingdom ?
FILL THE VOID!
Is
there a void in your life? Maybe
a feeling of emptiness that you know needs to be filled?
Perhaps what is missing is a relationship with the Lord!
Come and see the Good News Jesus has for you!

BAPTISM PREPARATION
If
you are interested in becoming part of the Baptismal Preparation Team which will
serve St. John's and St. Bernadette’s, please call Deacon Herzog at
302-786-2139. The program is being revised and expanded.
Baptism is the first sacrament received in the Catholic Church, and is
necessary for reception of the other sacraments. It frees us of Original
Sin, makes us members of the Church, and opens the Gates of Heaven for all who
receive the Sacrament. In the case of Infant Baptism, it is important for
parents, and Godparents to understand the theology of the Sacrament of
Baptism, the Sacramental Grace bestowed through Baptism, the parts of the
Baptismal Rite, etc. It is equally important for adults who desire to
receive the Sacrament of Baptism to receive proper catechesis regarding the
Sacrament. Therefore, an effective Baptism Preparation Program is
essential and significant in both the Spiritual LIfe of the Parish and of the
Sacramental Recipient, and is an important Ministry within the Parish.

WHY BE A CATECHIST? It is easy to forget just how essential
sharing the Faith, particularly as a catechist , is to our very lives. We
are all called to be witnesses to the Gospel. If you have been approached
to be a catechist, or if you feel the call of the Spirit, you are being asked to
do something special for God, the Church, and for your fellow Catholics. You
will never regret saying ‘yes” to that call. And in responding, you may find
you are doing something special for yourself.
RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION As you sit back to plan
your vacation and begin to enjoy the long hot summer days remember to take time
for yourself. In Mark 6:31 we read “come away by yourselves to a
deserted place and rest for a while. People were coming and going in great
numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat. So they went off in the boat
by themselves to a deserted place”.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION is about our faith and traditions
is important at all stages of life, even adulthood. While religious
education can be very fun and exciting for young children, it can often become a
burden to adolescents. What does your attitude about religious education
say to your children? Do you often allow them to miss class in favor of
other commitments? If your children aren’t getting much from their
religious education, discuss with them what would make it more exciting and
enlightening. You can take their suggestions to your parish Director of
Religious Education or implement them at home.
RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION Please plan to join
our youth in providing Easter Baskets for needy children. Items needed are:
baskets, grass, assorted candies, small toys for boys & girls, small stuffed animals.
Thank you!
CATECHISTS ARE NEEDED: Why you
really, really matter? Because no religious education program could happen
without you.
Our Teen Challenge program and children’s ministry is in need of
people to share their vision of God with our children and teens. Is
God tapping you on the shoulder?
CATECHISTS? I want to thank the parishioners that heard the
call to share their faith with our children and youth. We now have a team
of (5) catechists working together in our Teen Challenge Program. Primary grades
are in need of a few more adults to help on Sunday mornings. We must have 2
adults per classroom at all times. Can you give an hour on Sunday morning from
9:30 to 10:40 a.m. or 10:40 to 12 noon? We are looking for one other
person to join the Confirmation Team and two adults to help with the RCIA
program for children. If you would like more information on these programs
please call RE office. Parents are expected to actively participate
in their child’s faith formation and should give 4 hours a year in their
child’s classroom
YOUTH MINISTRY Nourish your
faith: mystagogy- the final
period in the process of initiation into the Church community that takes place
in the weeks following the Easter Vigil. Mystagogy means “instruction on the
mysteries.” For all Catholics, it is the ongoing, lifelong process of
reflection on the meaning of Baptism in each individual’s life. For neophytes,
or the newly initiated, it also entails catechesis and reflection on the
Sacraments of Initiation and the experience of the catechumenate.
YOUNG ADULTS Tap into something more in life! We invite young adults
in Their 20’s and 30’s, single and Married for refreshments/social event.
Come hear about what resources are available for young adults in our
Church who want to grow in their faith. Henri Nouwen once said that ministry
“means the ongoing attempt to put one’s own search for God, with all the
moments of pain and joy, despair and hope, at the disposal of those who want to
join in the search but do not know how.” That’s why Young Adult
Ministry invites people from all backgrounds to come together to pool their
resources and experiences as a community. Our
goal is to serve the young church. The
theme will be: Broken and Blessed- the drive for perfection or even to “be
good” can be a barrier to intimacy, forgiveness and true transformation. Come
as we look at our woundedness and imperfections with new eyes. Come and
experience a God whose light flows through the cracks in our lives and whose
very breath is forgiveness. The
date is Sunday, July 17th
from 5 to 8 PM. Please RSVP or get more information by calling or
e-mailing Maritza. The
speaker will be Maritza Figueroa.
DID YOU KNOW? The best thing a parish can do for teenagers, is to

CREATING FAITH FILLED FAMILIES Being green is all the rage. Did you know that taking care of the earth is actually part of Catholic social teaching? Teaching your children to take care of the earth (good stewardship) because God calls us to it is a wonderful way to keep Christ centered in their efforts to recycle, waste less and protect the gifts of God.
